Charlie Green, Grocer (1977)

Charlie Green, an Englishman, came to Saranac Lake for his health after being gassed in the trenches of World War I. He took a job at the Grand Union grocery store, which then was where Meyer's is now. Eventually, he opened his own store, the Charles Green Market, at 49 and 45 (both now 52) Main Street, currently the location of the Adirondack Artists' Guild and Anne's Cutting Edge. Here he worked until the day he died. Anyone who knew him knows there will never be another.
