Barnum Brook drains Barnum Pond into Lower St. Regis Lake in the Town of Brighton, Franklin County, NY. For most of that journey, it flows through the lands of the Adirondack Park Visitors Interpretive Center at Paul Smiths, NY.

Both the pond and the brook were named in honor of circus impresario P. T. Barnum by his friend, Apollos "Paul" Smith, who owned Paul Smith's Hotel on Lower St. Regis (where Barnum often stayed), along with thousands of acres of wildlands. The hotel property became what is now Paul Smiths College, which specializes in forestry and hotel management and culinary arts.
