Sandra Hildreth: Painter

After 29 years spent teaching art in public schools, Sandy (as she prefers to be called in the non-professional milieu) now devotes her energy to close and careful study of the landscapes which resonate in her own experience. She captures the feeling of these places in watercolors and in oils, and she also uses them symbolically in her Tibetan-style mandalas. Since settling in Saranac Lake in 2005, Sandy has become a generator of many good things. As a member of the Adirondack Artists Guild, she has helped create the annual Artist at Work Studio Tour (coming up September 25 – 27). She has helped to re-form the group Saranac Lake Art Works, which seeks to use the arts to promote the community, and through that body she is the principle force behind the Adirondack Plein Air Festival (Aug. 21 – 23).
