The West Branch of the Ausable is one of the most famous trout streams in the eastern United States. It's source is on the north slope of Mount Marcy, the highest mountain in New York State; and it flows northeastward to join the East Branch at Ausable Forks, the main stem continuing from there through Ausable Chasm to Lake Champlain.
